Rosemary Cloud

April 3 2022

To close our celebration of women’s history month, we celebrate Rosemary Roberts Cloud, who was born in East Point. When she was hired as Fire Chief for East Point in April 2002, she was the first female African American fire chief in the United States. Her accomplishments are many. Chief Cloud sat on the White House National Security Council as an Appointed Subject Matter Expert on HSPD-8 and recommended revisions to The National Strategy for Homeland Security. In 2010, Chief Cloud was inducted into the International Women in Homeland Security and Emergency Management Hall of Fame and has received other notable awards and honors, including the Millennium Pacesetter Award from the Atlanta Business League, Atlanta’s Top 100 Black Women of Influence by the Atlanta Business League, and Pinnacle Leadership Award from Delta Sigma Theta. Chief Cloud retired from the job in 2015 after 30 years of service. The City of East Point hosted a Hose Uncoupling Ceremony for Fire Station #4 and dedicated the new Station as the Chief Rosemary Roberts Cloud Fire Station & Training Facility on her birthday, March 29, 2019, at 2222 Ben Hill Road in East Point. We invite you to visit the East Point Historical Society at 1685 Norman Berry Drive to learn more about East Point’s history and its residents that have shaped it. Open Saturday's from 10am - 1pm.
