Nancy Ware
March 18, 2022
This week in women's history in East Point, we'd like to introduce Nancy Ware.
After her husband was killed in a railroad accident in 1863, and until she passed in 1898, Nancy Ware became an East Point entrepreneur and turned her large home into a 10-room boarding house. It was located close to Main Street and present-day Ware Ave (named after her family), close to where the library is located today. She was well known and thought of in very high regard. At the time she ran the boarding house, she was the oldest homeowner in East Point, was known as the town mother, and referred to as Aunt Nancy, by locals. Visitors from all over the United States would stay at Nancy’s boarding house when they came to East Point for summer vacations. Nancy’s son, JT Ware founded the Cold Spring Cue Club, where he became nationally known for his skills at the barbecue pit, and his infamous Brunswick stew. The Cold Spring Cue Club was located at 1685 Norman Berry where the East Point Historical Society currently resides. We invite you to visit the East Point Historical Society at 1685 Norman Berry Drive to learn more about East Point’s history and its residents that have shaped it. Open Saturday's from 10am - 1pm.
Also, please join the East Point Historical Society Group on Facebook where we encourage members to comment and add their own personal memories, experiences and photos.
