March 4, 2022

In honor of Women’s History Month, EPHS is pleased to recognize the contributions of Maggie Patricianne Hurd, PhD., to the East Point community. Ms. Hurd is second child to O.J. and Ruby Hurd, grew up in the East Point community, and to our knowledge still lives here today. She was the first African-American instructor of electron microscopy at Fernbank Science Center. She served on the board of the East Point Historical Society and also served as chairman of the East Point African American History Committee. The committee worked closely with the author Herman “Skip” Mason to produce the first book about African American citizens in East Point. Copies of the book are available for sale at the East Point Historical Society as well as photos of other amazing East Point women that have made contributions to EP.

Information source: “East Point, Georgia (Black America Series)” by Herman “Skip” Mason, Jr. - which can be purchased at the EPHS.
